These days with technology and innovation, we don’t even need to write by hand anymore, but we can just send messages or emails through our cell phones or laptops. However, a handwritten note can really purvey that you really care about the recipient and they feel much more valued, than if you sent them a digital communication.
Even though you can use a ballpoint pen or a roller-ball, using a fountain pen gives you that unique character to your handwriting that can’t be replicated by anyone else.

This is truly a great overview. Much appreciated.
When I was a child in the early fifties we used fountain pens in school. When the ballpoint pen became more common it was so much more convenient. Plus no more leaks in your pocket and ink bubbles on the paper.
The drying time concerns me. I am a lefty, is that a problem?
My dad yelled at me for getting ink on my fingers while trying out a fountain pen for the first time and now I’m here
I was just gifted a fountain pen, I've been wanting one for a long time but didn't know where to start. Now that I've started, there's no turning back. Writing is such a joy. And now I want to know everything about them ?
Very helpful. Thanks!
why do you need a gold nib if the point is irridium or some hard metal anyway?
You have really bad writing
Where do I buy that beutiful decorative paper sheet from the video?
This guy's outfit cost more than all the clothes in my closet, and every fountain pen in my collection, combined. I guess this channel isn't for regular working folks! 🙂
I hold pens/pencils wrong. I've always held them wrong… but the fountain pen makes holding it "the right" way, comfortable for me. i wasn't expecting that…
I've been writing with a parker sonnet daily now for a year, yesterday I tried using a ball point pen and it felt so weird!
The title of the video is how to write with fountain pens, and this guy tells everything about the fountain pens and literally shows his outfit at the too…?
I saw the title of this video and had to grin. In Germany, children use fountain pens from grade 3 up. It's liertally everyday business.
I just bought a Jinhao fountain pen. What a nice surprise to write my first words with it! It has a fine nib, I believe made of steel (of course, nothing fancy from a AliExpress), Pilot blue ink. Now I'll practice my calligraphy and save money for better pens! Thanks for all the tips!
Just want to make sure everybody understands Mont Blanc fountain pens in the meisterstock collection the cap is not designed to go on the back of the pen while you're riding
“How to change the oil in a car” Ok, well first I need to tell the history of the automobile as well as all of its components, then we’ll talk about why people like cars, and the different cars and why some people prefer different cars. Then we will briefly touch on what separates a Kia from a Bentley. Now the oil. So it’s important that you understand the history of oil and what preferences people have about the different oils. And now, we can discuss how to change the oil.
Pleass don't put too much pressure on the nib trying to get a thicker line, you can bend the nib beyond repair. If you want a thicker line, either get a flex nib or a thicker tip like a Broad or 1.1
England circa 1975: primary school in a windswept Yorkshire school.
Me: aged 10 in that historical period. Using fountain pen (cartridge). All school work done with said fountain pen. The "biro" was a dirty word. Results with wooden rule edge way on back off hand. Of flat on palm. Homework done in "biro" would have to be completly redone plus 100 lines in chalk on blackboard after school bell, in why hand writing must be perfect.
Aah those were the days.
1980: Parker and Lamy rollerball became the killer of fountain pens, in schools with chunky bright coloured platic barrels.
Thank you for describing you clothes. I did not know the name of the fabric pattern of your jacket. I had two women’s suits made of that fabric pattern but different colors. One was my Mother’s and the other my Grandmother’s, pre 1950’s. Both were cream with dark aqua blue, one had yellow as the third color the other pumpkin.
I'm 54,and have been looking at mon blanc fountain pens,I have discovered that I have had to re-learn how to write with a fountain pen, being left handed I found that I smudged the ink with my little finger.
Load of bs. You know nothing about foutain pens
Nice video, but dude you commit huge fashion faux pas by not wearing an undershirt. Nobody wants to see chest or armpit hair, or even hairy nipples through your nice dress shirt. Always, always, always wear undershirt (and not the wife-beaters which do nothing to minimize sweat stains). And watch your dry cleaning bills go through the floor as an added benefit! But otherwise great video!
How to write with a fountain pen. 1. Put ink in pen. 2. Write
First … you start by writing RIGHT handed. Makes everything so easy. I'm a lefty…..

I have a pair of fountain pens and I absolutely love them.
Much smoother writing, the ability to choose your ink, and just to be different from the crowd.
A billion years from now archaeologists will find notebooks full of these in archival ink from luxury pen shops and marvel at the mysterious ancient language that their computers have never decoded.
how can i know what angle my nib is positioned at? i don't know how to know if i'm holding it at a 45-50 degree angle
1:10 yeah that counts for a flex nib. Not every nib is such a flex nib and you might end up crushing your nib by attempting.
Most flex nibs are italian nibs which means your contact surface of the nib to the paper is a square than a point like on the "normal" nib.
The square nib also allows for a more delicate writing style up until calligraphic styles like the copper plate styles or fractured writtings. ^^
As always: great content!
I love fountain pens, I have at least 40 different pens, and prefer them to "regular" pens. Writing with them is such a pleasure!
Note, if your pen leaks and stains your shirt, try saturating the stain with hairspray and then rinsing. This will release most ink stains.
The Japanese make excellent pens and have some beautiful inks.
Hab mir (15 Jahre ?) einen Montblanc 149 in Wien gekauft ✌
In my school, (In Pakistan) it is neecessary to write with fountain pens from 5th grade, but im not sure about other schools in Pakistan
The problem with fountain pen is that after full writing on two letter size papers at the third page you can see the effects of the negative pressure in the cartridge that cut the flow of ink, you must stop writing for some minutes to let the internal pressure in the cartridge be at least zero so the ink flow to the nib can continue. I tried making a little hole with a needle in the extreme of the ink cartridge but all the ink run trough the nib.
A while back a started using a high end ballpoint pen then going through my granddads old briefcase I found a fountain pen and started writing with it
Where can I buy bordered paper for fountain pens, like the paper you show in the video?
What is not explained is that a high end vellum paper such as the Rhodia brand, due to its finish it feels almost like silk allowing the hand to glide over it with more ease than inferior paper (sand paper) This enhances your desire to start on a lifetime of penmanship. Then we come to the font style (or 'hand' style) at school we learnt to write using an Italic font that was slow as our teacher insisted on keeping various letters separate from the others and not joined together. However when I was older I discovered the 19th Century 'Copperplate' hand this allows a natural and faster flow when composing a letter, the letter chart (character map) can be freely downloaded online. Also available are calligraphic sets and dependent upon the brand these come with varying quantities of nibs allowing you to choose the correct nib width you're comfortable with. Two competitively priced and quality ones are either Parker or Osmiroid that have both been taken over by Newall brands, you maybe able to pick a new set online but they are no longer manufactured. Finally taking it to the ultimate level you can take up courses run by the Society of Scribes and Illuminators and even join them!
What's the paper shown in this video?
Am I the only man who gets an elevated sense of self-importance when I hand someone a check and tell them, “You’re going to have to let the ink dry, I use a fountain pen?”
"like in Europe"… sorry to ruin the magic.. but Europe ain't nearly as fancy as you think.
